Understand how your amps work and how to repair them.
For over 100 years the Music Industry has been shaped and molded by legendary and iconic advances in music technology. Examples can include the invention of Dobson’s famous banjo tone ring, digital audio recording and editing software like pro tools, and even improvements in tuner gearing, increasing the accuracy of the tuning machines. Shrouded in mystery and legend though are the circuits and components of music’s most legendary amps and their creators. How does it all work? Why does it all work? In this class we will learn basic circuitry and electrical circuit design concepts used from the most basic to the most complex pieces of music gear. An ability to solder is recommended but not mandatory and if you have an amp you’d like to learn with you are encouraged to bring it! We do require you to come with a curious mind and a love for music history as we explore these famous amps, their tones, their history and how to service and repair them.
Amps will be provided for demonstration and practice, but students can bring their own if desired.
