Learn how to spin wool into yarn that is suitable for knitting, crocheting or weaving.
The class will include instruction in the properties of wool which allow it to create strong yarn, learning to use a drop spindle to create a skein of yarn, learning to use a spinning wheel to create a skein of yarn, and dyeing the finished yarn. The historical and cultural aspects of hand spinning will be covered during the course of the week. The final class will be held at the instructor’s home, which is 5 minutes from McDaniel College, in order to use the dye pots and meet the sheep!
Limit: 7 students, ages 16 and up
Materials Fee: $45 includes drop spindle and wool roving needed for use in class during the week and use of instructor’s spinning wheels.
Student should bring: Shoe box or other similar sized box with 2 knitting needles (if you have them)
Schedule a week or two, or three! Or, just sprinkle some classes in between other commitments.
