Twice named International Bluegrass Music Association’s Bass Player of the Year, Mark Schatz has toured and recorded with a stellar array of artists including Bela Fleck, Tony Rice, John Hartford, Tim and Mollie O'Brien, Nickel Creek, and Claire Lynch. Mark, one of the preeminent bass players in the New Acoustic Music scene, is equally respected for his flawless clawhammer banjo playing and for his original compositions that are featured on his two Rounder recordings, Brand New Old Tyme Way and Steppin’ in the Boiler House. His banjo work can also be heard on projects by Mark O’Connor, Claire Lynch, Bela Fleck, and Tim O’Brien, and with Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble for whom is the Musical Director. He has taught at Augusta Heritage Workshops, Rocky Grass Academy, NashCamp, Common Ground on the Hill, and countless workshops at festivals. Most recently he has been touring his solo show, Mark Schatz – The Solo Concert.
