Bio

I received an M.A. in Spanish and an M.A. in Teaching from Binghamton University. In 2003, I arrived at McDaniel after completing my Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. My specialization is in Colonial Latin American Literature, with a focus on how women, the indigenous, and the African Diaspora portray themselves and are portrayed by others in material culture. This informs what I bring to the classroom where you’ll learn about all aspects of Spanish language and Latin American Literature, but also hundreds of years of migration and transculturation, bilingual and bicultural spaces, and U.S. Latinx cultures.

More recently, I have studied applications of intercultural competence development in language programs for non-native and heritage learners. In my administrative duties at McDaniel, I have worked in all aspects of global education, and have a strong interest in campus-based global learning initiatives, inclusion and access, and intercultural competence development inside and outside the classroom.
