Make a basket from sweetgrass, a historical art form brought to South Carolina by slaves from West Africa.
Participants will be introduced to a historical overview and origin of sweetgrass basketry along with basic construction methods, materials used, and tools used in making a basket. Participants who have taken the course before have the opportunity to make more intricate baskets (ex. handles, loops, different shapes.)
Limit: 10 students, ages 15 and up
Materials fee: $60 includes sweetgrass, pine needles, and palmetto and nail bone. If you already have a nail bone the fee is $55.00. Additional supplies may also be purchased
Student should bring scissors and tape measure
