Explore the rich connection between Scottish and Old-Time music with award-winning Celtic and Old-Time cellist Ellen Gira. As Scottish immigrants arrived in the Appalachian mountains, many brought their music with them, contributing to the Old-Time repertoire. We will dive into a selection of these Scottish tunes, and the Old-Time tunes that descended from them, exploring both tunes and their accompaniment. In doing so, we will explore the hallmarks of each of these styles, including ornamentation and bowing.
