Cultural ambassador and Pocomoke citizen, Drew Shuptar- Rayvis describes what it means to be a knowledge keeper, tradition bearer and cultural ambassador in his tribal community.
Keynote Address: Monday, July 14 at 8 PM Eastern Time. FREE - No registration required. In-person at WMC Alumni Hall, McDaniel College in Westminster, MD.
Join cultural ambassador and Pocomoke citizen, Drew Shuptar- Rayvis as he opens the floor with the story of a young man growing up in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains of western Connecticut, insulated from the threats of drugs and alcohol by the traditional culture that spoke to him. Dysfunction in his multicultural family and isolation at school taught him to rely strongly on himself, the land, the rivers, his ancestors and the creator for valuable life lessons and skills of physical, mental, and spiritual survival. Learn from his perspective what it means to be a knowledge keeper, tradition bearer and cultural ambassador in his tribal community and how this responsibility carries a lesson of stewardship, responsibility and integrity that continues to shape who he is today.
.Monday’s keynote presentation will be the subject of the interactive Search for Common Ground class. Tuesday, July 15, at 4 PM.
Schedule a week or two, or three! Or, just sprinkle some classes in between other commitments.
