The Arts will survive the 2024 election cycle and the dramatic changes in the national political environment; but will they thrive? Drawing upon his lifetime of experience in politics and elections, Professor John Willis will discuss the fundamentals of elections and how they were manifested in the 2024 election cycle. He will also explore the relationship between the Arts and government and the importance of the Arts in combating authoritarianism, promoting social change, and finding common ground. More elections are on the way and we need to examine the 2024 outcome to prepare for 2026, 2028, and beyond. What is the meaning of elections? Do they matter to the Arts?
The keynote will be the subject of the Search for Common Ground class on Tuesday, July 8, 4 PM. Professor Willis will share his insights and knowledge about politics, elections and government and their relationship to the Arts in an informal conversation with Common Ground Executive Director Walt Michael. Bring your ideas, perspectives and questions to this open session.
