For both dancers AND musicians: learn the rhythmic patterns of Irish music and how musicians and dancers can communicate for better performance.
This practicum will explore in detail phrasing in Irish music and its correlation to rhythmic patterns in step dancing. Students will learn to transcribe steps alongside musical scores, and will analyze the rhythmic patterns common to step dances and social dances. The course has been developed for both musicians and dancers: for musicians, it offers a comprehensive theory of music performance for dancing; for dancers, it unifies the practice of music and dancing to promote better communication between artists and more complete modeling of hybrid (music & dance) performance.
Schedule a week or two, or three! Or, just sprinkle some classes in between other commitments.
