Intermediate Mandolin is for mandolinists who have learned the basics and are ready to take the next step on their mandolinistic journey. If you're ready for some real, but FUN challenges, our week together will give you lots to work on!

We’ll work on intermediate-level right- and left-hand exercises that will improve your overall dexterity on the instrument to prepare you for more challenging repertoire. We’ll also take deep dives into topics that include: ‘position playing’, double stops, chords, and accompaniment, ‘closed position’ scales and modes – and importantly, how to use them. We’ll talk about shifting, creating interesting solos and fiddle tune variations and we’ll learn some really useful tools and strategies to lean on when you’re starting to improvise.

We’ll discuss ensemble playing and the importance of keeping good time and as part of this, we’ll learn to (finally) make friends with our metronomes.

We’ll do lots of ‘in-class’ playing and we’ll learn some great tunes to reinforce all the concepts that we discuss, so that you can immediately put what we’ll learn together to use!
