Learn everything you need to get started on the hammered dulcimer!
This two-period course is intended for complete beginners, in fact, you don’t even need to own a hammered dulcimer. No previous musical experience is required and you do not need to be able to read music. If you can count to 8, you are good to go. Extra credit if you can count backwards from 8 down to 1! This course is intended to launch your playing. We will PLAY tunes while learning the basic skills needed to improve: mapping of the instrument, hammering techniques, how to tune your instrument, how to locate all the notes on your dulcimer, how to play scales and arpeggios in the keys of D, G and A. Most of all, at the end of the week, you will be hooked on the hammered dulcimer! Expect lots of fun while learning.
Loaner instruments can be reserved by contacting the Common Ground on the Hill office: commonground@commongroundonthehill.org or the instructor at marylynnsmusic@gmail.com
Schedule a week or two, or three! Or, just sprinkle some classes in between other commitments.
