Create a small turtle using Cherokee symbols and techniques.
We will be making pottery using the coil-built method. That will involve many hand building techniques. We will discuss size and function of the vessel. We will learn about different designs within Cherokee culture and use that to design the pot. During the “drying” phase of the week, we will investigate the history of Cherokee culture, the way ornament and decorative designs evolved over the millennia and other fun things associated with Cherokee pottery.
Training under the tutelage of her grandmother, renowned Cherokee potter Jane Osti, from an early age, Lillie Vann continued her studies with Cherokee National Treasure Troy Jackson. Her mastery of the techniques and cultural significance of this work has been rewarded with numerous accolades, evidence of the enduring spirit of Cherokee artistry.
