Create two different types of baskets while learning basket-making basics
Students will learn the basics of basket construction by creating two baskets incorporating different techniques. Each student will leave the class with an understanding of basket construction, woven and color patterns, and a round and rectangular basket.
Beginning students will learn “stop and start” weaving by creating a market basket. They will move next to a “continuous” weave to make a double bottom apple basket.
Returning/intermediate level basket weavers will begin with a round wooden base and learn the “chase” weave technique that will create a spiral effect. They will then produce a market basket that incorporates a woven diamond design that encircles the entire basket.
