Volunteer applications will be accepted until July 6, 2024. Early applicants always get the best pick of jobs. Don't delay!

Volunteer in Exchange for Free Tuition 2024

For each class period, there is a one to one match for volunteer service and earning a free class as a student. For each class period that you serve as a volunteer, Monday through Friday, you will earn a free class period to attend as a student. The free class can be during any of the three Traditions Weeks.

Some classes are two periods per day. You may choose to volunteer for two periods to earn either a single two-period class OR two one-period classes. If you volunteer for a one-period class and want to enroll as a student in a two-period class, you will need to pay for the additional period.

Tradition Week shifts are one and three-quarters hours (one class period, plus 15 minutes before and after) per day. There may also be additional time coordinating with and supporting the instructor asynchronous to the class period, most likely in the weeks prior to that instructor's class.

Enrollment preference will be given to paying students in the case of full classes.

NOTE: All volunteers MUST read and agree to the Volunteer Guidelines and Privacy Policy. Acceptance of the policies is recorded on the Volunteer Enrollment form (above).

Description of Volunteer Jobs 2024

Support Common Ground On The Hill with your basic tech skills! With our fourth summer online, volunteers areas important as ever in supporting the delivery of online classes. If you are a user of Zoom, you likely already have the skills needed and training will also be available.

Classes are offered in the main categories of Distinctive Lectures, Literary/Performance Arts, Music, Dance, Movement, Human Arts, and Visual Arts. Please see the catalog for offerings in each area. If you have a particular category of interest, we will do our best to match your volunteer time with it.

‍Typical tasks for assisting individual instructors VIRTUALLY (Traditions Week 1, June 24/-28) include:

• Launching and ending the class meeting
• Assisting with screen share and breakout rooms
• Playing pre-recorded video
• Assisting with  mute/unmute for students
• Trouble shooting a tech issue s/a student getting kicked off
• Previewing an instructor’s video for feedback

Typical tasks for assisting IN-PERSON (Traditions Week 2, July 7-12) include:

• Handicap Services: Volunteers may be asked to transport students in wheelchairs.
• Hospitality: Must be able to lift if working set up or break down times
• Registration
• Sound: Must be proficient in the operation of sound equipment .  Must be able to lift sound equipment.
• Store:  Must be able to lift if working during set up or break down times
• Transportation: Must commit to one full day of service and have a reliable vehicle and a safe driving record.

Typical tasks for assisting at the IN-PERSON FESTIVAL (July 13) include:

• Festival Setup/Breakdown: Must be able to lift to assist with tent and table set up and break down
• Ticket Sales
• Registration: Assist with registration for the Deer Creek Fiddlers' Convention
